Around the Day of Atonement , 80 years ago, 20,00 children from the Lodz Ghetto were sent to their deaths.
Cruelly and inhumanly, they were separated from their parents and murdered in the Chelmno concentration camp in Poland. Children and babies were taken away without any family members to accompany them and died alone.
The commemoration of their memory was unattended to, because most did not have someone who could remember them or commemorate them; no trace of these families remained.
This year on Yom Kippur , we have the opportunity to commemorate their memory and ensure that their story will be eternalized. Each one of us can take part in memorializing them by buying a letter in the Torah scroll that is currently being written in their honor.
This Sefer Torah honors them and the memory of 1.5 million Jewish children whose names and memories have been erased from the face of the world.
